With the bases loaded and two outs, Mayberry lofted a fly ball to shallow left field. Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez made a diving attempt at the ball, but couldn't hold on, allowing Nate Schierholtz to score.
Ryan Howard drove in a pair of runs with a double and Domonic Brown went 2- for-4 for the Phillies, winners in three straight.
Cole Hamels started for Philadelphia and allowed two runs on five hits and struck out six over seven innings. Jonathan Papelbon (5-6) earned the win after stranding a runner in the ninth.
"It feels like we're trying to get into (a pennant race)," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "When things go right we look pretty good."
DJ LaMahieu and Tyler Chatwood each drove in a run for the Rockies, losers in four straight.
Matt Belisle (3-6) was charged with the loss after allowing the game-winning run.
The Rockies tallied a pair in the second. With runners on first and second and no outs, LeMahieu laced an RBI single to center to score Wilin Rosario, and Chatwood followed suit with a run-scoring base hit of his own in the next at bat to plate Chris Nelson.
The Phillies knotted it up in the third when Howard knocked in two with a double to right-center field. Hamels walked to open the inning and Utley singled to put runners on the corners with two outs before Howard roped a line drive in the gap.
