Final/10
Royals down White Sox in extras
Sep 10, 2012 - 12:40 AMVideo
Chicago reliever Brett Myers (2-3) walked Billy Butler with two outs in the 10th before giving up three straight singles to Salvador Perez, Moustakas and Francoeur.
In the bottom of the inning, Greg Holland walked two of the first three batters he faced. Gordon Beckham then put the White Sox on the board with a one-out double to left field. Holland, though, struck out both Alejandro De Aza and Ray Olmedo swinging to record his 13th save of the season.
Kelvin Herrera (3-2) picked up the win after getting Alex Rios to ground into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded in the ninth.
"Herrera came in and did a phenomenal job," Royals manager Ned Yost said.
Despite the loss, the AL Central-leading White Sox still hold a two-game lead over second-place Detroit, which missed out on an opportunity to gain ground by getting swept by the Angels.
Chicago begins a four-game home series against the Tigers on Monday.
Jeremy Guthrie scattered six hits over eight stellar innings for Kansas City. He entered play 4-0 with a 2.04 ERA in his previous six starts.
Chicago's Hector Santiago made his second career major league start and gave up three hits, walked three and struck out eight over four-plus innings.
"Hector did a great job," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "Offensively we didn't help him at all."
