Miley goes for Arizona against Rockies
Oct 1, 2012 - 2:56 PMVideo
The 25-year-old Miley made eight appearances late last season and began this year in Arizona's bullpen before making his first start of 2012 on April 23. He has been a surprise since, going 15-11 with a 3.33 earned run average in 28 starts while also notching a victory in one of his relief outings.
Miley has split his last four starts, but has a 6.45 ERA in that span. However, he remained perfect in his career versus the Rockies on Sept. 21 despite giving up five runs on 10 hits over six innings. He moved to 4-0 with a 3.00 ERA in five meetings with Colorado, including four starts.
The lefty is coming off a loss to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday as he yielded four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and three walks over just four frames of work.
Arizona was denied a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs on Sunday thanks to a 7-2 defeat. Jason Kubel had the lone RBI, while Josh Collmenter allowed a run over five innings in a no-decision.
"I was able to end on a good note, which was a definitely a positive," Collmenter said of his final start of the season.
Colorado's Drew Pomeranz will also try to end 2012 on the upswing after halting a 13-start winless streak on Wednesday versus the Cubs.
The Colorado lefty, 0-6 over his winless drought, won for the first time since July 6 following five scoreless innings of three-hit ball. Pomeranz also walked three and struck out three.
"He threw strikes down in the zone. He threw strike one, and as a result of throwing strike one and sending that message, he got himself a couple of first-pitch outs," Colorado manager Jim Tracy said of Pomeranz.
Pomeranz, 23, won his fourth career decision and moved to 2-9 with a 5.01 ERA in 21 starts this season.
His first two career outings with the Diamondbacks have not gone well. He is 0-1 and has given up nine runs, 13 hits and seven walks in just 7 1/3 innings.
Colorado went into its weekend set with the Los Angeles Dodgers having won four straight, but was swept in the three-game series, culminating with Sunday's 7-1 loss.
Andrew Brown hit a solo homer and Jorge De La Rosa yielded four runs over four innings.
"From mid-July we've had a number of rookies on the field," said Tracy. "They played hard today. But you can't catch a ball that's over the fence."
Colorado went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left 12 on base
The Diamondbacks are 9-6 versus the Rockies this season.
