Ramirez homers in four-run seventh as Marlins beat Padres
Jul 4, 2007 - 4:57 AM San Diego (Ticker) -- Hanley Ramirez used a home run trot to ensure his sore hamstring would not be tested.Ramirez blasted his first career pinch-home run and Alfredo Amezaga scored on a wild pitch to lift the Florida Marlins to a 6-4 triumph over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
Held out of the starting lineup with a strain in his left hamstring, Ramirez belted a two-run blast on an 0-2 pitch from San Diego starter Greg Maddux (7-5) to tie the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning.
After Ramirez's homer, Amezaga singled and Dan Uggla doubled to end the night for Maddux. Reliever Cla Meredith intentionally walked Miguel Cabrera, Royce Ring replaced Meredith and fanned Mike Jacobs before throwing a wild pitch that scored Amezaga for the go-ahead run.
Ring then walked Jeremy Hermida with the bases loaded as Florida tacked on another run, completing a four-run inning that featured 10 batters.
Justin Miller (3-0) got the last batter of the sixth to pick up the win. Renyel Pinto and Matt Lindstrom each pitched scoreless innings before closer Kevin Gregg struck out the side in the ninth to collect his 16th save in 17 chances.
Marlins starter Scott Olsen allowed four runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings. He walked five batters and struck out four.
Maddux yielded four runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings and recorded five strikeouts while not walking a batter. The 41-year-old righthander lost for just the second time in seven starts.
Khalil Greene belted his seventh homer in his last 14 games for San Diego, which has lost eight of its last 11 games at Petco Park.
Uggla added a pair of doubles for the Marlins, who won for just the third time in 10 games.
