Rockies visit Giants seeking sixth straight victory

(Sports Network) - Winners of five straight, the Colorado Rockies turn their attention to the San Francisco Giants on Monday for the opener of a three-game series at AT&T Park.

Colorado has won each of its first two series for the first time since 1995. After taking two of three from Milwaukee, the Rockies swept San Diego over the weekend. Colorado piled up 15 hits in Sunday's 9-1 win, which saw Dexter Fowler go deep for the fourth time already this season. Jhoulys Chacin replicated the line from his Opening Day start by once again allowing just one run in 6 2/3 innings.

Meanwhile, the bats have been slow to come around for the reigning world champion Giants, who have combined to hit just 5-for-29 (.172) with runners in scoring position through six games. They lost this weekend's series with St. Louis after getting shelled on Sunday, 14-3. The Cardinals put the game away with a nine-run fourth inning off Matt Cain, spoiling the Giants' afternoon in which they received their 2012 World Series rings.

The Giants are in the midst of playing eight day games in a span of 10 games, but they'll be under the familiar AT&T Park lights in this one.

Madison Bumgarner hopes to pick up where he left off in his season debut against the Dodgers last Tuesday, when he tossed eight shutout innings and scattered two hits. He struck out six and did not walk a batter, as 76 of his 101 pitches were strikes.

"That's the best I've felt in a long time," Bumgarner said. "If it's close like that, there's no room for error. I felt like I was careful, and kept the ball out of the middle as much as I could."

Rockies left-hander Jorge De La Rosa got skipper Walt Weiss' hook after giving up four runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings against Milwaukee last week. De La Rosa had walked three batters and given up a home run earlier in the game to Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, who was due up.

"It surprised me a little bit, because I just had 77 pitches, but they took me out," De La Rosa said. "It's good because we won."

De La Rosa is 3-2 with a 2.58 ERA in seven career games at AT&T Park.

The Giants won 14 of 18 meetings against Colorado last season, marking their highest-ever win total against the Rockies in a single season.
