Lincecum takes aim at another W in middle tilt with Rockies
Apr 9, 2013 - 3:02 PMVideo
Coming off the worst season of his young career, Lincecum kicked off his 2013 campaign in winning fashion, but was not exactly at his best, as he walked a career-high seven batters. However, the free passes never really came back to bite the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner, as both runs he allowed in five innings were unearned.
"I felt like I could have pitched a lot better," said Lincecum, who lost 15 games and pitched to a 5.18 ERA last season.
Lincecum has faced the Rockies 23 times and is 11-7 against them with a 3.55 ERA.
Colorado will counter with righty Juan Nicasio, who beat Milwaukee his first time out. Nicasio allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings of that one to earn his first-ever road win
"It's important because last year I didn't win on the road. Only at home," Nicasio said. "That was my first road win of my career. Now I'm looking for No. 2."
San Francisco beat the Rockies for the seventh straight time at home on Tuesay, as Hunter Pence hit a three-run home run in a 4-2 triumph. Buster Posey drove in the other run while Pablo Sandoval added two hits and a run scored for the Giants, who stopped a two-game slide.
Madison Bumgarner (2-0) gave up two runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
"He's got some of the most power I've ever seen," Posey said of Pence. "I get to hit with him in batting practice every day, and I try to make sure I hit before him so I don't have to follow up his moonshots."
Carlos Gonzalez hit a solo home run while Chris Nelson drove in a run for the Rockies, who had a five-game winning streak snapped. Jorge De La Rosa (0-1) gave up three runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts over six innings of work.
The Giants won 14 of 18 meetings against Colorado last season, marking their highest-ever win total against the Rockies in a single season.
