Miley, one of last season's breakout pitchers, was a supplemental round draft pick of the Diamondbacks in 2008 and debuted with the team in 2011 when he made seven starts in eight year-end appearances.
He was 4-2 in that brief stint, then became a regular with 29 starts in 32 appearances in 2012 while winning 16 games and lowering his earned run average from 4,50 to 3.33.
The performance earned him a nod as a National League All-Star and propelled him to second in the league's rookie of the year voting behind Washington Nationals phenom Bryce Harper.
Miley picked up win No. 1 of 2013 on April 5 in Milwaukee when he scattered five hits and allowed one run in six innings of a 3-1 triumph.
He's split two career starts against the Pirates while allowing just two earned runs in 11 innings.
Pittsburgh, meanwhile, goes with journeyman lefty Jonathan Sanchez, who signed a $1.375 million free agent deal with the Pirates in February - making them his fourth team since 2011.
The 30-year-old native of Puerto Rico was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2004 and debuted with them in 2006 before winning a career-high 13 games in 2010.
He was just 4-7 across 19 starts a year later, however, and spent 2012 with the Kansas City Royals and Colorado Rockies after one trade during the offseason and another during the middle of the season.
Sanchez was 1-6 in 12 starts with Kansas City and 0-3 in three outings with Colorado.
The Rockies granted him free agency after the close of the 2012 schedule, which led him to Pittsburgh. He debuted for the Pirates with a 3-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 5 after allowing three runs on six hits in five innings.
He's 7-7 in 20 career meetings with Arizona.
On Tuesday, Starling Marte and Neil Walker each drove in two runs during a five-run fourth inning that propelled the Pirates to a 6-5 victory. Garrett Jones went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI for the Pirates, who have won the first two games of the series after a 1-5 start to the season.
"We've got some guys that can hit," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "We've been able to show that the last couple of nights."
James McDonald (1-1) overcame a rough first inning to earn the win. He was charged with four runs on four hits and four walks over five frames.
Brandon McCarthy (0-1) also labored in his outing, surrendering six runs -- four earned -- on 10 hits in 6 2/3 frames for Arizona, which went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Miguel Montero knocked in three runs while Jason Kubel added a two-run homer, though the Diamondbacks managed just six hits.
The Pirates won four of seven games against Arizona in 2012.
