Chacin picked up his first win of the season on Sunday against Volquez and the Padres, holding them to a run and six hits over 6 2/3 innings. He also allowed a run 6 2/3 innings in his season debut and is pitching to a 1.35 ERA on the year.
"Today I had better location with my pitches than last time," Chacin said. "The Padres, they swing, they're aggressive. I was just trying to throw strikes, throw my sinker down, and let them hit it."
Chacin is 3-1 in eight games (5 starts) versus the Padres with a 2.57 ERA.
Volquez, meanwhile, lost for the second time in as many starts on Sunday, as the Rockies reached him for four runs in six innings. The outing was actually an improvement on his first start which saw him give up six runs in three innings.
"When you give up three runs in the first inning, it's tough for the team," Volquez said.
Volquez, who is 3-4 lifetime against the Rockies with a 4.81 ERA in eight games, is pitching to a 10.00 ERA on the year.
Colorado continued to dominate the Padres in Friday's opener, as Dexter Fowler and Josh Rutledge clubbed back- to-back homers in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Rockies to a 7-5 win.
The Rockies erased a two-run deficit in the eighth, capitalizing on a costly San Diego error, then Fowler and Rutledge took Padres closer Huston Street (0-1) deep in the next frame.
"I am just going up there looking for good pitches to drive," Fowler said. "That first one, I thought that's way back and it barely cleared the fence. That second one, I really thought I got it."
San Diego went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth, with Rafael Betancourt earning his fourth save of the season. The late power surge made a winner out of Rex Brothers (1-0).
Todd Helton collected three hits and knocked in a run in the for the Rockies, who have beaten the Padres five straight times.
Yonder Alonso hit a two-run homer and Will Venable also had two RBI for San Diego, which has won only two of its first 10 games.
"Anytime you have a loss, it's tough," Alonso admitted. "It's definitely very disappointing. We have to play better."
The Rockies swept their three-game set with the Padres last weekend and won six of nine in San Diego last season.
