Dodgers turn to Capuano in middle tilt with Friars
Apr 16, 2013 - 3:09 PM (Sports Network) - Chris Capuano makes his first start of the season on Tuesday when the Los Angeles Dodgers continue a three-game series with the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium.Capuano, of course, takes the place of righty Zack Greinke, who broke his collarbone in a benches clearing brawl with the Padres last week. Capuano has appeared twice out of the bullpen for the Dodgers this season, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings. He was 12-12 in 33 starts for the Dodgers last season.
In 14 games (11 starts) versus the Padres, Capuano is 5-4 with a 3.34 ERA.
Opposing him will be Jason Marquis, who is 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA. Marquis did not get a decision against Greinke and the Dodgers on Thursday, as he surrendered two runs and seven hits in five frames. He also walked four batters.
Marquis is 6-4 lifetime against the Dodgers with a 2.63 ERA in 16 games (15 starts).
In Monday's opener, San Diego's Eric Stults recorded a quality start and crushed a three-run homer in a 6-3 victory.
With Carlos Quentin serving his suspension for his part in last week's fracas, Monday's focus at Chavez Ravine was more on baseball and on commemoration of the 66th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier.
The Dodgers were unable to ride the wave of the ceremony's momentum, losing for the third time in four games despite getting three hits, an RBI and a run scored from Carl Crawford.
Stults (2-1) gave himself an early lead with an unlikely homer and lasted six innings, scattering three runs and nine hits to help snap San Diego's five- game slide.
"It felt good," Stults said of his homer. "My power zone is opposite field. I just tried to put a good swing on the ball."
Los Angeles took two of three from the Padres last week after winning last year's season series, 11-7.
