Marlins, Nats play rubber match of set in Miami

Apr 17, 2013 - 2:23 PM (Sports Network) - Lefty Ross Detwiler looks for a third straight stingy outing - and a first victory of 2013 - when the Washington Nationals visit Marlins Park on Wednesday night to wrap up a three-game series with the Miami Marlins.

Detwiler, who picked up 10 of his 16 career big-league wins last season, opened this year with six innings of one-run ball while getting a no-decision in the Nationals' 7-6 win in Cincinnati on April 6.

He went seven innings and again allowed just one run six days later against Atlanta, but again got a no-decision in a game Washington lost, 6-4.

The former first-round pick - sixth overall, 2007 - has allowed just 10 hits in 13 overall innings while walking three batters, striking out six and allowing a paltry .213 opposition batting average.

He's just 3-15 in 36 career road games, compared to a 13-7 mark at home.

In two outings last season at Marlins Park, he was 0-1 while allowing six hits and three runs in 7 2/3 innings.

For Miami, 30-year-old righty Ricky Nolasco faces the Nationals for the second time this month.

He allowed three hits and two runs across six innings in a 2-0 loss to Washington on April 1, which dropped his career record against the Nationals to 11-6 in 21 appearances - including 19 starts.

Nolasco has subsequently pitched 11 1/3 innings and allowed 13 hits and four runs in starts against the New York Mets and Philadelphia while getting no- decisions in both games.

The Marlins lost both games.

On Tuesday, Adeiny Hechavarria knocked a three-run home run and the Marlins defeated the Nationals, 8-2.

Justin Ruggiano had three RBI, Greg Dobbs drove in two runs and Juan Pierre scored twice and had two stolen bases for the Marlins, who came into the game having not homered in nine straight games, tying their franchise record set by the 1993 expansion team.

"I was beginning to think that the home run sculpture out there wasn't plugged in," said Marlins manager Mike Redmond. "So I'm glad to see that it's working and it is definitely plugged in."

Marlins starter Alex Sanabia (2-1) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks over six innings in the victory, only their third in 14 games this season.

Tyler Moore and Steve Lombardozzi had one RBI apiece for the Nationals, who saw starter Dan Haren (1-2) struggle, giving up seven runs -- three earned -- in 4 1/3 innings.

"I thought he pitched a lot better," said Nationals manager Davey Johnson. "We didn't seem to swing the bats too good and it's just one of those days."

The Nationals swept Miami in a season-opening series at Nationals Park while outscoring the Marlins, 11-1. The teams split 18 games in 2012.
