King Felix tries to string consecutive wins together vs. Angels

Apr 27, 2013 - 1:40 PM (Sports Network) - Felix Hernandez tries to string back-to-back wins together on Saturday when the Seattle Mariners continue a four-game set against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Safeco Field.

After allowing eight runs in two starts, Hernandez has bounced back by giving up just one his last two times out to lower his ERA to 2.08. The former Cy Young Award winner was brilliant against the Houston Astros on Monday and picked up career win No. 100 in the process, as he scattered five hits and struck out nine over six scoreless innings to win for the first time since Opening Day.

"Finally. Finally," Hernandez said of reaching the milestone. "It took too long. But it felt great. One hundred wins in the big leagues and hopefully I can get more and more. My teammates did a great job out there scoring runs. It felt good."

Hernandez, who is 2-2 on the year, has struggled against the Angels, going a mere 6-12 in 30 starts against them with a 4.07 ERA.

The Angels will counter with righty Joe Blanton, who is 0-3 with a 7.84. Blanton did not get a decision on Monday against Texas, but was awful again, as he allowed four runs and 12 hits in six innings of his team's 7-6 loss.

Blanton, though, is 8-5 lifetime versus the Mariners with a 3.50 ERA in 15 starts.

Los Angeles snapped a two-game slide on Friday, as Mark Trumbo and Hank Conger each cranked two-run home runs to help the Angels to 6-3 win. Albert Pujols added two RBI and Peter Bourjos had two runs scored for the Angels, who won only their third road game in 10 tries this season.

C.J. Wilson (2-0) scattered three runs and seven hits while striking out a season-high nine Mariners in 5 1/3 innings of work.

"C.J., at times he was electric tonight, and at times, it was rough. You have a 5-run lead, and he was having trouble getting the ball into the zone and putting some hitters away," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

Kelly Shoppach and Robert Andino each had two hits for Seattle, which lost for the sixth time in eight games. Aaron Harang (0-3) lasted just three innings, yielding five earned runs and six hits.

"I love the way our guys fought tonight," Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. "When you get down early like that it can be easy for the game to get away."

The Angels were 11-8 against the Mariners last season.
