Orioles, Angels resume series at the Big A
May 3, 2013 - 2:47 PM (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles try to add to the misery of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Friday when they continue a four-game set against them at Angel Stadium.Baltimore won the opener of this series on Thursday, as Chris Tillman tossed eight scoreless innings to help the Orioles to a 5-1 win. Nate McLouth hit a two-run homer, while Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Nick Markakis each knocked in a run for Baltimore, which improved to 5-3 on its 11-game road trip.
Tillman (2-1) was the star, though, as he gave up just three hits while striking out three and walking two.
"It's always fun to pitch in front of your family and friends," Tillman said. "I threw strikes early and I had fastball command."
Angels starter Joe Blanton (0-5) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits over eight innings. Albert Pujols hit a solo homer in the ninth for the Halos, who have lost five of six and are a mere 10-18 on the year.
"We just didn't get on his fastball and that was his primary weapon tonight," Trumbo said of Tillman.
Getting the call for the O's on Friday will be righty Miguel Gonzalez, who is 2-1 with a 4.60 ERA. Gonzalez did not get a decision against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday in Oakland, as he allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 frames of a 9-8 loss.
Gonzalez beat the Angels last season, holding them to a run and three hits in seven innings in his first big league start.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, will counter with winless lefty Jason Vargas, who lost to Seattle on Sunday, but pitched well. Vargas surrendered two runs and six hits to his former team and struck out seven, but still fell to 0-3 on the year to go along with a 4.85 ERA.
Vargas is 1-2 in six starts versus the O's with a 2.03 ERA.
Anaheim, which won seven of nine matchups between these teams in 2012, is 13-6 in the last 19 meetings between the two ballclubs.
