Angels eye third straight win against White Sox

May 11, 2013 - 2:47 PM (Sports Network) - Two struggling teams will meet on Saturday when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim look to grab three straight wins for just the second time this season against the Chicago White Sox.

The Angels let an early lead disappear on Friday but were able to survive with a 7-5 victory in game one of this series.

After going up 5-1 early on, Angels starter Barry Enright was chased out of the game in the bottom of the fourth after he allowed four runs in the inning.

That is how the score would stand until Mike Trout had an RBI single in the seventh inning to put the Angels ahead for good. Michael Kohn pitched a scoreless sixth inning to pick up the win as the Angels bullpen managed to pitch 5 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. Ernesto Frieri grabbed his sixth save of the season when he shut the door in the ninth.

Trout was 2-for-5 in the contest while Brendan Harris went 3-for-4 with a home run from the ninth spot in the order. The Angels have won back-to-back games for just the fourth time this season.

Making just his second start of the season for Los Angeles will be Jerome Williams. The 31-year-old journeyman has spent the last three seasons with the Angels and has filled in as a spot starter and reliever and is especially needed this season with the rotation dealing with a number of injuries, including one to ace Jered Weaver.

In his first start last Sunday, Williams didn't do particularly well as he allowed five runs on four hits and three walks while failing to get out of the fifth inning. He was also tagged for a pair of home runs in the outing.

In his previous eight appearances, Williams had been used out of the bullpen, primarily in a mop-up role as the team has gone 1-8 in games in which Williams has pitched though the right-hander himself is just 1-1 on the year with an ERA of 3.16.

Williams faced Chicago twice last season with one start. In that time he went 1-0 with an ERA of 2.89 in 9 1/3 innings of work. In his career, Williams has a 2.76 ERA in four appearances against the White Sox.

On the other side of this pitching matchup is Jose Quintana, who has been solid at the back end of the rotation for the White Sox.

In six starts this season, Quintana is 2-0 with an ERA of 3.86 in 32 2/3 innings of work. Quintana has also been effective in keeping the ball in the park as he has given up just three home runs, the fewest's among Chicago starters.

Quintana hasn't really been eating up too many innings of late. His most recent start came last Sunday when he allowed three runs on six hits in what turned into a 6-5 loss to Kansas City.

Last season Quintana made his first ever start against the Angels and went five innings and got tagged for four runs. However, only one was earned, but that didn't matter in the decision as he took the loss.
