Astros eye another W in Anaheim

Jun 2, 2013 - 1:21 PM (Sports Network) - The Houston Astros will be looking to extend a season-high four-game winning streak on Sunday when they battle the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

On Friday night the Astros were able to pull out a 6-3 victory over the Angeles. Houston then followed that up with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

Bud Norris pitched six scoreless innings and struck out six batters to earn the win and Jose Veras collected his 10th save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Chris Carter accounted for the only runs of the game with a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

Erick Aybar and Mike Trout each went 2-for-5 for the Angels, but the rest of the team was a combined 3-for-24. Jerome Williams allowed just two runs in seven innings of work, but still took the loss.

Riding his best stretch of pitching of the season, Jordan Lyles will head to the mound to start for Houston in Sunday's divisional matchup.

Lyles has allowed no more than one earned run in three straight games and with each start has been pitching later into the ball game. In his last start, Lyles finished a season-high seven full innings, allowing just the one run on six hits while striking out three. Lyles also threw a season-high 110 pitches in the game which marked his second-straight game of the year going over the century mark.

Lyles' recent exploits have allowed him to drop his once inflated ERA (8.36) back to a level of respectability (4.50) though his record hasn't improved much as he is just 2-1 with just a single victory in those three contests.

Earlier this season Lyles made his first career start against the Angels. In that contest Lyles lasted just five innings but tied a season-high with six strikeouts while allowing three runs en route to his first win of the season.

Coming off his worst start of the season, C.J. Wilson will try to bounce back against the Astros on Sunday.

Wilson went up against the cross-town rival Dodgers on Thursday and was tagged for a season-high six runs while failing to get out of the fifth inning for the first time in his 11 starts on the year.

After that tough outing Wilson is now sitting with a 4-3 record with his ERA just a shade under 4.00. Wilson has managed to get nearly a strikeout per inning on the campaign with 64 punch-outs in 68 1/3 innings of work.

Wilson has already made two starts against Houston this season with a record of 1-1 and a 2.19 ERA. In his most recent appearances against the Astros back on May 7, Wilson struck out a season-high 12 batters but took the loss after allowing seven runs, only two of which were earned. Overall in his career Wilson is 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA in 16 appearances, six starts, against Houston.

The Astros now lead the season series 5-3.
