A's, Brewers set to meet for first time since 2002
Jun 3, 2013 - 2:56 PM (Sports Network) - Left-hander Tommy Milone goes for a fourth straight unbeaten start on Monday night when the Oakland Athletics visit Miller Park for the opener of a three-game interleague series with the Milwaukee Brewers.Milone, who's never faced the Brewers, dropped five consecutive starts between April 21- May 12 to plummet to 3-5 on the season.
He ended the slide with a 2-1 victory over Kansas City on May 18, when he allowed just a run on five hits in six innings. A no-decision at Houston followed six days later, and the streak reached three games with a 9-6 victory at San Francisco on May 29.
Milone pitched five innings against the Giants and gave up four runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
He's 2-3 in six road starts this season and Oakland is 5-5 in the 10 overall games that he's pitched.
Milwaukee starts 29-year-old righty Marco Estrada, who meets the Athletics for the first time.
Estrada saw a three-start unbeaten run snapped in his last start on May 29, when he dropped a 4-1 interleague decision to the Minnesota Twins.
He allowed four runs on seven hits in seven innings with no walks and five strikeouts in that defeat, which dropped him to 4-3 in 2013.
The Brewers are 7-4 in the 11 games he's pitched.
On Sunday in Oakland, Jarrod Parker and three relievers combined on a three- hit shutout of the Chicago White Sox to complete the Athletics' three-game sweep with a 2-0 victory.
Parker (4-6) limited Chicago to two hits while striking out seven and walking two over 6 1/3 stellar frames, and Grant Balfour capped a stingy bullpen effort to close out the second shutout of the series.
Coco Crisp scored both of Oakland's runs, one on a Josh Donaldson sacrifice fly and the other thanks to an error in the eighth.
The A's have won 14 of their last 16 games to move a season-high 10 games over .500.
In Philadelphia, Domonic Brown finished a double shy of the cycle and Cliff Lee tossed 7 2/3 strong innings as the Phillies held off the Brewers, 7-5, to avoid a three-game sweep at Citizens Bank Park.
Jonathan Lucroy capped a stellar series with a three-run triple and Norichika Aoki also drove in a run for the Brewers, losers in seven of their last nine games.
Lucroy went 8-for-13 with three homers and eight RBI over the three-game set.
Mike Fiers (1-4) lasted just 1 2/3 innings after giving up seven runs -- five earned -- on seven hits. Fiers has dropped all three starts he's made this season, and hasn't won a start since Sept. 8, 2012 against the St. Louis Cardinals.
"We battled back, and it shows this team is not out of it," Fiers said. "This team still battled through at-bats, and late in the game we almost tied the game or went ahead. It makes it even worse on me."
The Athletics and Brewers last met in 2002, when Oakland won three straight games. They won six of the 11 games played in 1997, while Milwaukee last won the series, 7-5, in 1996.
