Marlins set for rubber match with visiting Brewers

Jun 12, 2013 - 2:49 PM (Sports Network) - Dominican righty Alfredo Figaro makes his third start of the season in his 19th appearance on Wednesday night when the Milwaukee Brewers visit Marlins Park for the finale of a three-game set with the Miami Marlins.

The Marlins drew even on Tuesday night when Giancarlo Stanton's two-out, two- run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted them over Milwaukee, 5-4.

Stanton crushed the first pitch he saw off reliever Jim Henderson (2-2) to put the Marlins ahead. Juan Pierre beat out an infield single to get on base with one out in front of the go-ahead blast.

"It was all set up by (Pierre) with that great at-bat, giving (Stanton) a chance to get up there and make that great swing," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.

Derek Dietrich also had a two-run homer while Logan Morrison added a run- scoring double, his first RBI of the year, for the Marlins.

Aramis Ramirez, Jonathan Lucroy, Yuniesky Betancourt and Scooter Gennett each collected an RBI for the Brewers, whose four-game winning streak came to an end.

Chad Qualls (2-0) pitched a perfect top of the eighth to earn the win, while Steve Cishek picked up his seventh save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Although he has just one win in his last seven decisions, Brewers starter Wily Peralta had an effective outing, surrendering three runs on five hits over six innings.

Miami starter Jacob Turner was dinged for four runs -- three earned -- on five hits with six strikeouts over six frames in his third start of the season. In his first two, he allowed just one run in 13 innings.

The Marlins lead the all-time series between the teams, 56-55, through 111 games. Eight games in 2012 were split, 4-4, while the Brewers swept the Marlins, 7-0, in 2011.

Figaro, who made eight major-league appearances with Detroit in 2010, has posted a 4.08 earned run average in 39 2/3 innings with the Brewers.

He started on May 28 and allowed four runs on four hits in five innings of Milwaukee's 6-5 loss to Minnesota, then allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings against Philadelphia on June 7 in a 5-4 Milwaukee win.

The Brewers are 1-9 in his last nine appearances.

Figaro has never faced the Marlins.

The Marlins start Texas-born Kevin Slowey, who ended a five-start drought in his last outing.

The former draft pick of the Minnesota Twins won at Philadelphia on May 5, then was 0-3 in five subsequent starts before defeating the New York Mets on June 8.

In that game, Slowey allowed eight hits in seven scoreless innings and struck out eight in a 2-1 victory.

He's 3-0 in five career starts against the Brewers.
