Astros attempt to even series at Wrigley Field
Jun 22, 2013 - 2:07 PM (Sports Network) - Righty Bud Norris faces the Chicago Cubs for the 10th time in his 114th big-league appearance on Saturday when the Houston Astros visit Wrigley Field for the middle game of a three-game series.The 28-year-old Californian is 4-4 in the initial nine meetings while posting a 3.14 earned run average, walking 23 batters and striking out 44 in 48 2/3 innings.
Chicago hitters have managed a .261 batting average against Norris, two points higher than his career mark of .259.
He improved to 5-4 in 2013 with a 2-0 defeat of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on June 1, but has since dropped three straight, losing to Baltimore, Seattle and the Chicago White Sox, while allowing 10 runs on 22 hits in 20 innings.
Norris is 2-4 in six road starts this season and 1-3 in five career appearances at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs go with lefty Travis Wood, who'll also make his 10th career appearance against the Astros and has lost three straight starts.
Wood was 5-3 on the season after an 8-3 defeat of the White Sox on May 30, but is winless in June since losing consecutive decisions to Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and St. Louis.
In those games, Wood has allowed just six earned runs in 20 innings while the Cubs have been outscored, 9-3.
He's 3-2 in his career against the Astros with a stingy 1.89 ERA in 57 innings of work, while allowing a .198 batting average.
On Friday, starter Matt Garza (2-1) gave up one run on four hits over eight- plus innings in the Cubs' 3-1 victory. He struck out a season-high eight and walked two.
The Cubs took advantage of the long ball as Anthony Rizzo, Darwin Barney and Scott Hairston each launched solo homers.
Dallas Keuchel (4-4) gave up all three homers on nine hits in six innings, while striking out a career-high nine.
Chris Carter's solo home run in the seventh inning accounted for the Astros' only run.
The Cubs won eight of 15 games with the Astros in 2012, Houston's final season in the National League.
