Turner carries unblemished record into start against Padres
Jun 29, 2013 - 2:21 PM (Sports Network) - Right-hander Jacob Turner has yet to lose in five starts in his first full season with the Marlins. He'll take the mound Saturday for the Marlins in the second portion of a four-game series against the San Diego Padres.The 22-year-old Turner is coming off his fourth consecutive no-decision a week ago at San Francisco. He gave up six hits and a run over seven innings. Turner is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in two home starts this season.
Eric Stults, who has yet to lose in his last four starts, counters for the Padres. The lefty threw seven innings in a no-decision against the Phillies on Monday. He's 2-0 over his last four appearances. That includes a dominating two-hit complete game against Arizona on June 14.
Stults is 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA in four games (3 starts) against the Marlins.
Last night, the Padres utilized spacious Marlins Park to top the Marlins, 9-2. Logan Forsythe led San Diego's offensive barrage. He had three hits including a two-run home run. Will Venable knocked in three runs on three hits.
Edinson Volquez (6-6) capitalized on the run support to earn the win. The right-hander gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out eight in six innings.
The Padres roughed up Ricky Nolasco (4-8) for six runs -- five earned -- on 11 hits in five-plus innings. Eleven of the 19 balls put in play against Nolasco turned into hits.
Giancarlo Stanton doubled in a run and scored another for Miami, which ended its three-game winning streak.
The Padres swept a three-game set versus the Marlins in San Diego from May 6-8, outscoring Miami 11-1.
