Cuddyer aims to extend hit streak against Giants

Jun 29, 2013 - 2:23 PM (Sports Network) - Michael Cuddyer tries to extend his franchise-record hit streak on Saturday when the Colorado Rockies continue a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field.

Cuddyer extended his remarkable run to 25 games on Friday with a two-run home run to help the Rockies take a 4-1 win.

"Cuddy's so locked in right now, I don't know if you can swing the bat any better than he is right now," Colorado manager Walt Weiss said. "He's doing damage, too, when he gets his hits. He's been huge."

Cuddyer, who has also reached base in a club-record 43 straight games, hit his two-run shot in the third inning while Wilin Rosario followed with a solo shot for the Rockies, who snapped a three-game losing streak..

Jhoulys Chacin (7-3) finished the game giving up three hits with three walks and three strikeouts over eight innings to win his fourth straight start.

"That's as good as it gets right there from Jhoulys," said Weiss. "He was efficient, two-seamer and slider were real good. To hold that club scoreless for eight innings is very impressive."

Barry Zito (4-6) dropped his third straight decision as he was touched for four runs on 10 hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings for the Giants, who tied a season-high with their fifth straight loss.

"We got so many guys right now who are trying to get on track," said San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy. "It's not because of effort and that's why I think a lot of them are just pressing up there because they're not having any success."

On Saturday Colorado will turn to lefty Jorge De La Rosa, who has won six of his last seven decisions. De La Rosa beat the Washington Nationals on Sunday, as he allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings to run his record to 8-4 with a 3.19 ERA.

De La Rosa beat the Giants earlier in the year and is 8-4 lifetime against them with a 3.74 ERA in 17 games (14 starts).

San Francisco, meanwhile, turns to righty Matt Cain, who has traditionally had success against the Rockies, posting a 17-7 mark against them with a 3.30 ERA in 30 starts.

Cain, though, has struggled at times this season and enters Saturday's start 5-4 with a 4.54 ERA.

The Giants have won six of 11 versus the Rockies this season and have gone 33-14 in this series since the start of the 2011 campaign. Despite Friday's loss, San Francisco has still won 14 of 23 in Colorado over that time.
