Posey, Giants pound Padres
Jul 13, 2013 - 6:15 AM San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Buster Posey drove in five runs as the San Francisco Giants took a 10-1 win over the San Diego Padres in the second of four from Petco Park.Marco Scutaro went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Brandon Crawford had three hits and scored twice for the Giants, who have won the first two games of this set after dropping 14 of 16.
Chad Gaudin (3-1) gave up just one run on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts over five innings of work.
Chase Headley drove in the only run of the game for the Padres, who have fallen on hard times as they have dropped 13 of their last 14 games. Sean O'Sullivan (0-1), recalled before the game, was charged with two runs on six hits over five innings to suffer the loss.
"They put some stress on him and he really had to work out of some jams," said San Diego manager Bud Black. "But I thought he put together some effective innings out there."
San Diego got the first run of the game in the first inning as Alexi Amarista worked a one-out walk and Headley followed with a double for a 1-0 lead, but it was all San Francisco from there.
In the third, back-to-back singles from Gregor Blanco and Scutaro put runners on the corners and Buster Posey tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left.
The Giants then took the lead in the fifth on Pablo Sandoval's RBI double and further padded their lead in the sixth.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Scutaro punched a single to plate one runner, and Posey followed with a two-run single to right for a 5-1 lead.
San Francisco poured it on in the seventh inning and got the first run across on a wild pitch from Brad Brach that scored Hunter Pence. Later in the frame, Andres Torres singled home a run and Scutaro plated another run two batters later with a base hit. Posey then hit a two-run double for a 10-1 lead.
