Lohse, Brewers try to rebound against Padres
Jul 24, 2013 - 2:27 PM (Sports Network) - Kyle Lohse began his season with six losses over his first seven decisions, but the Brewers right-hander has surely made an impression since that poor beginning.Lohse gets back on the mound Wednesday when Milwaukee resumes a four-game series against the San Diego Padres at Miller Park.
Lohse is 5-1 with a 2.63 ERA over his last 10 starts and hasn't lost at home since May 8 versus Texas. He blanked Miami over six innings on Friday. He is 4-4 with a 4.69 ERA in 10 career starts against San Diego. His first victory as a Brewer came in a 7-1 win against the Padres on April 22 at Petco Park.
Padres righty Sean O'Sullivan makes his second start and third appearance of the 2013 season. The San Diego native hadn't pitched in a major league game since Sept. 27, 2011 with the Royals until he took the mound July 12 against the Giants and suffered a 10-1 loss despite being charged with only two runs over five innings. His ensuing appearance came in relief a week later when he surrendered five hits and three runs in two innings at St. Louis.
O'Sullivan has never faced the Brewers.
Nick Hundley's two-run home run in the sixth inning helped power the Padres to a 6-2 win last night. Hundley went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Padres, who have won four of their last six.
Tyson Ross (1-4) went six innings and only gave up one run on two hits to earn his first win of the season. The right-hander was recalled from Triple-A Tucson prior to the game to make his first start since April 17.
Donovan Hand (0-2) was the recipient of the loss after giving up two runs on seven hits before leaving the game with a right hand contusion. The right- hander was hit by a pitch in the third inning. He stayed in the game to pitch one more frame.
"Not bad, tomorrow we will see how it feels. It's swelling on the pinky side but nothing major. I just couldn't grip the ball anymore. I didn't want to do something different and hurt it more," said Hand on his right hand contusion.
Khris Davis belted a pinch-hit solo shot off Colt Hynes in the bottom of the eighth for his first career home run.
Mark Kotsay went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored once for San Diego.
"Tonight was a lot of fun. It hasn't been a lot of fun lately. I tried to understand my role. It's a lot more fun to have success then to struggle. I don't think I've ever gone 0-for-25 in my career before," said Kotsay, who snapped his hitless streak in the second inning.
The Brewers won two of three from the Padres when the teams met for a three- game series in California in April.
