Indians turn to Kluber versus White Sox
Jul 31, 2013 - 4:11 PM (Sports Network) - Righty-hander Corey Kluber can extend both personal and collective unbeaten streaks on Wednesday night, when the Cleveland Indians host the Chicago White Sox in the third contest of a four-game series at Progressive Field. The Indians have won the first two games of the set and six in a row overall, including a 7-4 victory on Tuesday.
Yan Gomes had three RBI and his two-run double capped off a four-run eighth inning for the Indians.
Bryan Shaw (2-2) recorded one out in the eighth to earn the win and Chris Perez stranded a runner at third in the ninth to grab his 15th save of the year.
Michael Bourn drove in the other two runs for Cleveland.
Adam Dunn went 2-for-3 with two RBI while Josh Phegley and Dayan Viciedo each drove in a run for the White Sox, who have lost five in a row.
Following the game, Chicago pulled off a three-team trade with Boston and Detroit. The deal shipped starter Jake Peavy to the Red Sox and netted the White Sox highly-touted prospect Avisail Garcia from the Tigers via the Red Sox.
Boston also sent minor league infielder Cleulius Rondon and pitchers Francelis Montas and Jeffery Wendelken to Chicago, but the big pull was the 22-year-old Garcia, who was assigned to Triple-A Charlotte.
"Garcia is a very young, five-tool player who already has spent time in the major leagues," said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager. "Our scouts are extremely optimistic about his future and view him as a potential impact talent for many years to come."
Kluber, who entered the season with just two wins in 15 big-league outings, has won seven times in 2013 and hasn't lost since dropping a 7-3 verdict at Baltimore on June 27.
In five starts since, he's 1-0 with four no-decisions for the Indians, who've gone 4-1 in those games.
He scattered seven hits and allowed three earned runs in his last start, on July 26 against Texas, in a game Cleveland won, 11-8.
Kluber is 1-1 in three lifetime meetings with the White Sox.
For Chicago, lefty Jose Quintana will get the call. Quintana suffered a hard- luck loss his last time out against Kansas City, as he allowed a pair of runs in seven innings, but still fell to 5-3 to go along with a 3.55 ERA.
Quintana has faced the Indians six times (4 starts) and is 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA against them.
Cleveland won seven of the first nine games with the White Sox in 2013, including four in a row from June 28 through June 30.
