Indians seek revenge in second test at Miami
Aug 3, 2013 - 1:46 PM (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians and Miami Marlins will square off again Saturday in the second game of a three-game weekend set at Marlins Park.Friday night's series opener certainly went the way of Miami, which posted a 10-0 rout of Cleveland.
Logan Morrison went 4-for-5 in the contest with a double and four RBI while Christian Yelich went 3-for-5 with a triple out of the leadoff spot.
Jose Fernandez continued his impressive rookie season to earn the win for Miami. Fernandez pitched eight shutout innings and collected a career-high 14 strikeouts. With the win the Marlins have now won three straight contests.
Cleveland starter Ubaldo Jimenez lasted just four innings after allowing five runs, two of which were earned, on nine hits. Matt Albers gave up five runs himself on seven hits in just one inning of work.
The Indians, who had a eight-game winning streak snapped, had just three hits in the game.
Zach McAllister will make his second start since coming off the DL when he takes the hill on Saturday for Cleveland.
McAllister found himself on the DL in early June with a right finger sprain. The right-hander did not pitch again until July 23 when he was activated.
In that first start, McAllister allowed four runs, three of which were earned, in five innings of work against Seattle. His second start was much better as he pitched seven innings and let up just two runs against Chicago, though he did not factor in the decision.
Though the injury slowed him, McAllister is still having a solid season as he is 4-6 with a 3.48 ERA in 13 starts and 77 2/3 innings pitched.
This start will mark the first of McAllister's career against the Marlins.
For Miami on Saturday, 22-year-old Jacob Turner will be making his 11th start of the season.
Like Fernandez before him, Turner has been impressive despite his youth. The right-hander is 3-3 with a 2.65 ERA in 11 starts since being called up at the end of May.
In every start this season, Turner has not allowed more than three earned runs, including his last outing against the Mets. In that game. Turner let up three runs over 6 1/3 innings of work. Unfortunately, Turner did not factor in the decision.
Turner has pitched just once against a team from the AL Central. In that contest, he allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings in earning a win in July of last season. He has never faced the Indians.
These teams squared off for a three-game series last season, as the Marlins took two of three in Cleveland.
