Orioles try to stay on track in finale with Rockies

Aug 18, 2013 - 2:54 PM (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles were able to stop their losing streak and find a win on this homestand. They will try for a series victory over the Colorado Rockies Sunday in the finale of a three-game set at Camden Yards.

The Orioles halted a four-game slide with Saturday's 8-4 win over the Rockies, as they grabbed a comfortable lead with seven runs in the third inning. Adam Jones had three hits and an RBI, Manny Machado and Brian Roberts had two RBI apiece and both Chris Davis and Nick Markakis knocked in a run.

The support made a winner out of Orioles newcomer Bud Norris, who held on for the win even though he was touched for four runs and nine hits in 5 2 /3 innings. Norris struck out five and walked three batters.

"Just to get back in the win column was huge," Norris said. "To have a seven- run third inning it definitely helps any starting pitcher go out there so I just wanted to keep putting up zeros."

Baltimore is 1-1 on its nine-game homestand and will also welcome Tampa Bay and Oakland to town. The O's are 5 1/2 games off the AL East lead and three games behind for one of the two wild card spots.

Scott Feldman, who came over via trade with the Cubs, gets the nod Sunday and is 2-3 with a 5.18 ERA in seven starts as an Oriole. He is 0-2 in his last three outings and did not record a decision in Monday's 7-6 loss at Arizona, allowing two runs -- one earned -- in 5 1/3 innings.

Feldman has made two career relief appearances against the Rockies.

Colorado entered Saturday having won two straight and six of seven games, but Chad Bettis was drilled for eight runs, two of which were earned, in 2 2/3 innings.

"It was really embarrassing," Bettis said of his start. "I have a lot to learn from this start and that's all I have to take from it."

Dexter Fowler had two RBI and a run scored for the Rockies, who are 1-1 on a 10-game east coast sojourn.

Jhoulys Chacin will handle pitching duties Sunday for the Rockies and is 11-6 with a 3.18 earned run average in 23 starts. Chacin is 8-3 in his last 11 decisions and defeated San Diego with eight innings of one-run ball in a 14-2 blasting of the Padres on Monday.

Chacin has given up more than two runs only once in his last seven trips to the mound and the right-hander has never faced Baltimore. Chacin is 4-3 with a strong 1.87 ERA in nine road starts this season.

Baltimore and Colorado are squaring off in this series for the first time since the Rockies took two of three matchups back in 2007.
