Dodgers try to avoid third straight loss in Miami

Aug 20, 2013 - 2:36 PM (Sports Network) - It's been quite a while since the Los Angeles Dodgers lost three in a row and they're in danger of that happening on Tuesday when they continue a four-game series against the Miami Marlins.

The last time the Dodgers dropped three straight was June 8-10. They suffered their second loss in a row after a season-high 10-game winning streak with Monday's 6-2 setback at Marlins Park.

Rookie left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu was saddled with the loss for giving up three runs and six hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Juan Uribe finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Carl Crawford drove in the other run for Los Angeles, which has lost consecutive games for the first time since June 20-21.

"We didn't play bad tonight ... we just got beat," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.

Mattingly's club still leads the NL West by 7 1/2 games over Arizona, and is 25-5 since the All-Star break and 42-10 since June 22.

Chris Capuano draws the start for L.A. Tuesday and he is 2-0 in his previous six trips to the mound. Capuano has been reached for nine runs in his past two starts, recording no-decisions in both, and gave up four runs on 10 hits in five innings of a 5-4 win over the New York Mets. Capuano has yielded 10 hits in each of his past two appearances.

The Dodgers have won Capuano's last six outings and he is 4-6 with a 4.66 earned run average in 18 games (16 starts) this season. The lefty defeated Miami with 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball in a 5-3 victory on May 12 and is 6-5 with a 3.53 ERA in 16 career matchups (15 starts) with the Marlins.

Miami won for the fourth time in six tries Monday behind a solid performance from rookie pitcher Jose Fernandez. Fernandez struck out eight batters and permitted two runs (1 earned) in six innings. A.J. Ramos, Chad Qualls and Steve Cishek threw a scoreless inning of relief apiece.

"We just beat the best team in baseball," Fernandez said. "I'm looking forward to winning the next three."

Giancarlo Stanton homered and was one of three players to finish with two hits and an RBI, joining Donovan Solano and Logan Morrison. Christian Yelich, Ed Lucas and Adeiny Hechavarria all knocked in runs to help the Marlins improve to 2-2 on their 10-game homestand against NL West foes.

Jacob Turner will take the mound for Miami Tuesday and he is 0-3 in his past six starts. The Marlins had lost Turner's previous five starts and he recorded a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-2 win at Kansas City, where he limited the Royals to two runs -- one earned -- in five innings.

The right-hander, who sports a 3-0 mark in six home starts, is 3-4 with a 2.89 ERA in 14 starts overall this season. Turner has never faced the Dodgers.

The Dodgers took two of three versus Miami from May 10-12.
