Streaking Greinke squares off against Marlins
Aug 21, 2013 - 2:48 PM (Sports Network) - Zack Greinke will try to keep his unbeaten streak intact when the Los Angeles Dodgers resume their four-game series against the Miami Marlins Wednesday night.Greinke is 3-0 with a 1.33 earned run average in his last four starts -- all Los Angeles wins -- and has won eight of his last nine decisions. Greinke, who is 8-1 in 11 starts since June 22, fired 7 1/3 shutout innings in Friday's 4-0 win at Philadelphia and hasn't allowed a run in two straight starts.
The right-hander improved to 11-3 in 20 starts with a 3.02 ERA and the Dodgers are 16-4 when he takes the mound. In five career games (4 starts) against the Marlins, Greinke is 2-0 with a 4.85 ERA.
Los Angeles got back on track with Tuesday's 6-4 win and broke a 4-4 tie on Yasiel Puig's home run leading off the top of the eighth. Tim Federowicz then plated Hanley Ramirez on an infield single in the ninth to cushion the Dodgers' lead.
Puig, meanwhile, was reportedly fined for being late to the ballpark but entered the game during a late double-switch. He was hitless in his previous 11 at-bats until giving L.A. the lead for good.
"He's just instinctive," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said of Puig. "He was just up there hitting."
Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Carl Crawford, Mark Ellis and Federowicz finished with two hits and an RBI apiece for the Dodgers, who halted a two-game slide and won for the 11th time in 13 tries. Chris Withrow got the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief and starter Chris Capuano allowed three runs in five innings.
Kenley Jansen posted his 20th save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Dodgers are 7 1/2 games ahead of Arizona for the NL West lead.
Miami had won two in a row and four of six games until Tuesday's loss. Dan Jennings served up Puig's home run to take the loss and starter Jacob Turner was touched for four runs (3 earned) and 10 hits in five innings.
"It didn't look like (Turner) had it tonight," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said afterward.
Giancarlo Stanton powered Miami's offense with three hits and an RBI.
The Marlins, who are 2-3 on their 10-game homestand, will host Colorado for three games this weekend and hope Nathan Eovaldi can give them an advantage versus the Dodgers Wednesday night.
Eovaldi is 2-3 in 11 starts with a 3.96 ERA and is winless in his last six appearances (0-3). He was shelled for 11 runs -- nine earned -- and 12 hits in three innings of Friday's 14-10 loss to San Francisco. The right-hander lost his only career start against his former Dodgers club last Aug. 24, when he gave up six runs in three innings of an 11-4 defeat.
The Dodgers took two of three versus Miami from May 10-12 this season.
