Mariners look to end skid against Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) - After finally scoring some runs, the Seattle Mariners will now be eyeing a win.

The Mariners will try to halt a three-game losing streak when they face the Texas Rangers in the opener of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

After getting shut out in the final two games of its road series with the Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle did score twice in the first inning en route to dropping an 8-7 loss.

Veteran slugger Sammy Sosa doubled, homered and drove in five runs for the Rangers, who won for just the second time in their last six games.

The Mariners will turn to Ryan Feierabend (1-3, 9.31 ERA) to try and halt their struggles.

The lefthander struggled in his last outing, giving up three runs, five hits and four walks in four-plus innings of a 7-3 victory at the Oakland Athletics on July 8.

Feierabend has pitched into the fifth just once in his last four starts.

Texas will counter with John Rheinecker (0-0, 12.00). The lefthander struggled in his only previous start this season, allowing four runs and seven hits in three innings of a 7-4 win over the Detroit Tigers on June 5.

Recalled from Class AAA Oklahoma, Rheinecker was 4-2 with a 3.57 ERA in nine starts there.
