Miley tries to find the win column, stay unbeaten vs. Rockies
Sep 14, 2013 - 2:47 PM (Sports Network) - Wade Miley takes aim at his first victory in over a month Saturday night as the fading Arizona Diamondbacks resume a three-game set with the Colorado Rockies.Miley is 0-2 with a 4.42 earned run average in six starts since his last victory on Aug. 6. That has dropped the lefty under .500 for the season at 9-10 with a 3.73 ERA in 29 starts.
Miley did pitch well enough to win at San Francisco on Sunday, giving up two runs on five hits and a pair of walks over seven innings. Arizona, though, lost 3-2 in extra innings.
The 26-year-old will try to begin a turnaround against a Rockies club he has never lost to. He is 5-0 with a 2.52 ERA in eight previous meetings (7 starts) and has held Colorado to a run over 12 1/3 innings in two starts this season.
Arizona fell to .500 on the season with Friday's 7-5 loss. The Diamondbacks have lost four of five and eight of their last 12 to drop nine games back of the NL's second wild card.
Colorado's Wilin Rosario paced the offense on Friday with a career high-tying four RBI, taking full advantage of his two hits.
"His hits came at big times, that's for sure," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of Rosario. "He's just a real good offensive player. It's nice to see him finish strong. "
Charlie Blackmon hit a two-run triple for the Rockies, who had dropped five of six coming in, while Tyler Chatwood gave up two runs on seven hits and six walks over 4 2/3 innings of a no-decision.
Miguel Montero hit a three-run home run and Eric Chavez drove in a run for the Diamondbacks, while Brandon McCarthy lasted six innings and gave up two runs on 11 hits.
"Today, I didn't feel sharp at all," McCarthy said. "I didn't feel strong. It was one of those ones that you have to battle through."
Roy Oswalt will try to do that tonight for the Rockies in his first Major League start since suffering a left hamstring strain on July 7 in Arizona. He returned to action in a relief role on Sunday versus San Diego, giving up a run on two hits over his first three innings of work before getting tagged for four runs on two hits and a pair of walks while recording just one out in the seventh inning.
The 36-year-old righty took the loss and is 0-5 with an 8.57 ERA in five games (4 starts) this season.
Oswalt is 9-4 with a 2.41 ERA in 14 career starts versus the D'backs.
The Diamondbacks swept a three-game set at home versus the Rockies in the previous meeting from July 5-7 and have won six of eight over Colorado in Arizona this year.
