Brewers go for four-game sweep of Mets

Sep 29, 2013 - 2:02 PM (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers started the season with eight losses over their first 10 games. Even though they won't be going to the playoffs, the Brewers can end the season on a positive note when they go for a four-game sweep of the New York Mets at Citi Field.

The Brewers have won 10 of their last 14 games, including four in a row leading up to this final day of the regular season.

Right-hander Marco Estrada, who has never pitched at Citi Field, is 3-0 with a 2.26 ERA in eight starts since coming off the disabled list on Aug. 7. He will take the ball for Milwaukee and is 0-1 with a 14.54 ERA in five career games against the Mets, all in relief.

Jonathon Niese counters for the Mets. The left-hander is 5-2 over his last nine starts and is coming off a 4-2 win at Cincinnati on Tuesday, as he threw seven solid innings in that contest.

In four career games against the Brewers, Niese is 2-0 with a 6.52 ERA.

Longtime catcher Mike Piazza will be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame prior to the contest. He will become the 27th member inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame. Piazza hit 220 of his 427 career home runs with the Mets, ranking third in franchise history.

Carlos Gomez and Yuniesky Betancourt hit RBI singles in the 10th inning Saturday to lift the Brewers to a 4-2 win. Gomez also had a solo homer. Milwaukee right-hander Jimmy Nelson gave up just one hit and one run in five innings in his first major league start. The right-hander walked three and struck out four.

"It wasn't pretty," Nelson said. "I tried to do my best to keep us in there and give us a chance to win, and we did that. We ended up scrapping it out in the end."

Mets righty Aaron Harang went winless in his last 10 starts after giving up a run, five hits and two walks in six innings. Harang, whose last win came July 22 with the Mariners, struck out seven.

"He knows what he's doing, he's got a game plan, he doesn't let certain guys beat him," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "He's not afraid to pitch around somebody and get the next guy out. He's one of those true professional pitchers."

The Mets have lost three straight games overall. They've also dropped 10 of their last 11 at home to the Brewers. The Mets won two of three in Milwaukee from July 5-7.
