Royals look for fifth straight against Twins
Jul 30, 2007 - 1:04 PM Kansas City (47-57) at Minnesota (53-51) 8:10 pm EDTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Kansas City Royals will look to stay on a roll when they face the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a four-game series Monday.
The Royals' 10-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday was their fourth consecutive win and brought them within a one-half game of the Chicago White Sox to climb out of the cellar of the American League Central.
A key to their recent success has been the play of David DeJesus, who is on an eight-game hitting streak.
Gil Meche (7-7, 3.76 ERA) will get the start for Kansas City. Meche had a four-game winning streak snapped when he surrendered five runs and nine hits over 7 1/3 innings in a 7-1 loss to the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
The Twins will counter with Scott Baker (4-4, 5.30), who yielded four runs and six hits with five strikeouts over seven innings in Tuesday's 7-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Last year's AL Most Valuable Player, Justin Morneau has collected a hit in nine of the last 10 games, batting .357 with three home runs and 12 RBI in that span.
