Glavine goes for win 300 against Brewers

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - New York Mets pitcher Tom Glavine (9-6, 4.51 ERA) will look to become the 23rd player in baseball history to win 300 games Tuesday night when he takes the hill against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Winning number 300 could be difficult as Glavine has won back-to-back starts just twice this season. He won his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates giving up just three runs on eight hits.

Glavine hasn't faced the Brewers this season but dominated them during a start last season. He struck out 11 over six innings giving up one unearned run.

Opposing Glavine will be Jeff Suppan (8-9, 5.08). Suppan has struggled this season against left-handers allowing them to hit at a .346 clip this season. Suppan has pitched only five innings in five of his last seven starts.

Both teams are in need of wins as division opponents are closing in on them.

Thanks to nine wins in their last 10 games, the Philadelphia Phillies are now just three games back in the National League East Division. The Chicago Cubs have been the hottest team in baseball and are just one game back of the National League Central Division Brewers.
