Tigers, Athletics wrap up three-game series

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) - The Detroit Tigers will try to end their three-game series against the Oakland Athletics on a positive note Wednesday.

All-Star Dan Haren labored through six innings and Kurt Suzuki and Jack Cust combined to drive in four runs, leading Oakland to a 7-3 victory on Tuesday.

Detroit has lost seven of its last nine games.

Nate Robertson (6-8, 5.08 ERA) goes to the hill for the Tigers, who despite their struggles, still hold an one game lead over Cleveland atop the American League Central.

Robertson has been tagged in his last two starts, allowing 13 runs and 21 hits through 11 2/3 innings. The lefthander will be making his first appearance against the Athletics since tossing five scoreless frames in Game One of the ALCS.

Oakland will counter with Dallas Braden (1-6, 5.53), who has not captured a win since April 24 at Baltimore. In his last start, the 23-year-old was pounded for seven runs in four innings of a 7-1 loss at Seattle on Friday.

Braden, who is a lackluster 0-5 at home, will be getting his first action against the American League defending champion Tigers.

The Athletics have dropped 15 of their last 21 games.
