Giants take aim at another win at Chavez Ravine

Apr 5, 2014 - 1:55 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Madison Bumgarner shoots for his first win of the season on Saturday when the red-hot San Francisco Giants continue their three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

Bumgarner was victimized by his defense in Arizona on Opening Day, as the Giants committed a pair of errors leading to four unearned runs. He was forced to leave after four innings, having allowed six hits.

The Giants won the game, but Bumgarner received a no-decision.

"It wasn't quite the way I drew it up, but however we get the win, we'll take it," said Bumgarner.

Bumgarner could find his way to the win column on Saturday, as he's 8-3 with a 2.58 ERA lifetime against the Dodgers, including a 3-1 ledger and 1.93 ERA last year.

San Francisco continued to impress in Friday's opener, as it struck for eight runs in the first two innings and rolled to an 8-4 triumph. Brandon Hicks doubled twice and knocked in a run for the Giants, who have won four of five to start the season.

Ryan Vogelsong got the start for San Francisco, but couldn't complete the fifth to earn the win. He allowed four runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out four in four-plus innings.

"I was executing early and then it got away from me," Vogelsong said.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (1-1), who hadn't allowed a run in either of his first two starts, was tagged for six earned runs on eight hits and walked three in his rough outing. Four relievers combined to toss seven innings of no-hit ball. They walked one and struck out 10.

"(Ryu) gave up some hits, but we didn't help him much," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.

The story of the day came before the game, though, as the Dodgers activated outfielder Matt Kemp from the disabled list. Kemp, who had been recovering from left ankle surgery, wasn't going to be in the lineup, but wound up replacing Yasiel Puig, who arrived late for batting practice.

"I think he truly thought the game was later. He handled it well," Mattingly said about Puig.

Los Angeles will rely on lefty Paul Maholm on Saturday. He signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers this offseason after going 10-11 with a 4.41 earned run average and 105 strikeouts over 153 innings last season with the Atlanta Braves..

Maholm is 2-3 with a 4.06 ERA in 10 lifetime appearances against San Francisco.

San Francisco was 11-8 last year against the Dodgers.
