Cosart tries to follow up terrific debut in finale with Halos

Apr 7, 2014 - 1:46 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarred Cosart tries to follow up a terrific season debut on Monday when the Houston Astros close out a four-game series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Minute Maid Park.

Cosart beat the New York Yankees on Wednesday, as he scattered four hits over five scoreless innings. He also struck out three and walked a batter in the win.

"My biggest goal coming into this year was to cut down on the walks," Cosart said. "When I got behind tonight, I told myself, 'I'm not going to walk them. Let's get back in the zone and work on what we've worked on all Spring Training and all offseason.' That's kind of what happened."

As good as Cosart was in his initial start, Angels lefty C.J. Wilson was just as bad in an 8-3 loss to Seattle. Wilson was roughed up for six runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings of that one.

"This is a results game, so any time you give up six runs, it's a pretty crappy day at the office," Wilson said. "But you have to look at the cause. At the end of the day, I'm looking at it from an analytical perspective and saying that I threw some pitches that were very hittable, and they hit 'em."

Wilson has faced the Astros 18 times (8 starts) and is 5-3 with a 2.98 ERA against them.

Houston's bats came alive on Sunday, as the Astros hit five home runs in a 7-4 victory.

Jonathan Villar, Alex Presley, Jesus Guzman, Matt Dominguez and Jason Castro all homered for the Astros, who bounced back after dropping the first two games of this four-game series.

Scott Feldman (2-0) delivered with another strong start for Houston, giving up one run on three hits over seven innings. The right-hander got the best of CC Sabathia and the New York Yankees on Tuesday, limiting them to just a pair of hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings.

"The guys went out and got some early runs for me again. From there, just trying to throw strikes and not walk many guys," Feldman said.

Erick Aybar and Raul Ibanez each knocked in two runs for the Angels, who saw starter Jered Weaver (0-2) allow five runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings.

"From the get-go he was having problem with commanding counts and repeating pitches, and he got behind," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of Weaver.

The Astros edged the Angels in the season series 10-9 last season, but lost six of the nine games played in Houston.
