Lee hopes for some run support in finale against Reds
May 18, 2014 - 2:38 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Cliff Lee has yet to win at home this season thanks to a lack of offensive support. The left-hander hopes to break that slump Sunday when the Philadelphia Phillies battle the Cincinnati Reds in the finale of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.Lee is 0-3 with a 1.55 ERA in four home starts this season. That actually includes a complete game, 13-strikeout performance April 11 against the Braves in a 1-0 loss. The Phillies have scored a total of eight runs over the four games Lee has started at Citizens Bank Park.
On Tuesday, Lee kept the Angels off the board for the first five innings before two Cody Asche errors at third base contributed to Lee allowing four unearned runs in the sixth. The Angels won,4-3.
Lee is 6-2 with a 3.69 ERA in 13 regular season starts against the Reds. His last defeat to Cincinnati came May 18, 2008 when he pitched for Cleveland. He's 3-0 in seven starts since that defeat.
Tony Cingrani comes off the 15-day disabled list to start for the Reds. The lefty hasn't pitched since April 30 against the Cubs due to left shoulder tendinitis. This will be his second career start versus the Phillies.
The Phillies bats broke out in a big way last night in a 12-1 win. Cole Hamels got his 100th major league win by fanning 10 batters for the second straight start. Domonic Brown hit a two-run homer and had a career-high five RBI.
Cesar Hernandez added a solo shot in the eighth inning, his first major league homer, and Asche drove in three for the Phillies, who snapped a five-game home losing streak.
The Reds, still without former MVP Joey Votto because of a left quad strain, had just three hits in the game.
Homer Bailey gave up seven hits and two walks in his 3 2/3 innings.
The Phillies lost four of six against the Reds last season.
