Turner eyes rare road win at AT&T Park

May 18, 2014 - 2:39 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Jacob Turner tries to pitch the Miami Marlins to a series win on Sunday when they close out a four-game set against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

Turner will be trying to bounce back from a tough loss his last time out against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who battered the left-hander for five runs (4 earned) and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Turner had pitched five scoreless innings before unraveling in the sixth.

The loss dropped Turner to 0-1 on the year to go along with a 6.75 ERA. In fact, he hasn't been credited with a win since last July (16 starts) and is 0-10 with a 3.97 ERA in 17 career road starts.

San Francisco, meanwhile, will counter with righty Ryan Vogelsong, who is 1-2 with a 4.22 ERA. Vogelsong lost to Atlanta on Tuesday, as he allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings.

"I feel like I probably threw the ball better in the first five innings than in the previous three games," Vogelsong said afterward.

Vogelsong has faced the Marlins eight times (4 starts) and is 2-3 with a 2.35 ERA against them.

After losing Thursday's opener, Miami has responded with back-to-back wins. On Saturday, Tom Koehler tossed seven scoreless innings and Giancarlo Stanton homered in the Marlins' 5-0 win.

Koehler (4-3) fanned seven and allowed four hits and two walks for the Marlins, who have won three of their last four games on the heels of a five- game losing streak.

"They compete, they make it fun and we're in this together," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.

The Giants loaded the bases against Kevin Slowey in the ninth, but Steve Cishek came on and struck out Tyler Colvin to end the game and notch his ninth save of the season.

Tim Lincecum (3-3) struck out six and surrendered three runs on seven hits and three walks over six frames for San Francisco.

"He had five quick outs and then he got out of sync," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of Lincecum.

The Marlins, who won four of seven matchups between these teams a season ago, have won 14 of their last 18 at AT&T Park.
