Lynn, Cardinals hope to sweep D'backs out of St. Louis
May 22, 2014 - 2:21 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Lance Lynn takes aim at his sixth win of the season on Thursday when the St. Louis Cardinals close out a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Busch Stadium.Lynn won for the first time in five starts on Friday against Atlanta, as he allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings to run his record to 5-2, while lowering his ERA to 3.67.
"It was just one of those things where all of a sudden, everything clicked and I was throwing the ball where I wanted to," Lynn said. "After that, I was ready to go.
Lynn is a perfect 2-0 lifetime versus Arizona with a 2.37 ERA in five games (3 starts).
Arizona, meanwhile, will counter with lefty Wade Miley, who has lost three of his last four decisions. Miley fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, as he surrendered four runs and seven hits in six innings and fell to 3-4 to go along with a 4.94 ERA.
Miley has split two starts against the Cardinals with a 4.38 ERA.
St. Louis continued to roll on Wednesday, as Matt Holliday started the defensive play that kept the Cardinals tied with the Diamondbacks and ended the game by scoring on an error in the 12th inning in his team's 3-2 triumph.
Matt Adams and Allen Craig each had three hits, as the Cardinals won for the sixth time in seven games and can sweep this three-game set Thursday.
Seth Maness (2-2) pitched one inning to get the win, while Trevor Cahill (1-6) suffered the loss.
Gerardo Parra hit a two-run homer for Arizona, which lost for the fourth time in six games.
Cardinals starter Michael Wacha was in the dugout when he suffered a contusion on his right elbow after being hit by a batted ball from Adams leading off the bottom of the sixth inning.
The D'backs won four of seven games against St. Louis last season.
