Former teammates Beckett, Burnett meet in Philly
May 25, 2014 - 12:57 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Former teammates with the Marlins, Josh Beckett and A.J. Burnett meet each other on Sunday when the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies conclude a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.Beckett and Burnett were on the Marlins together for five years (2001-05) and won a World Series in 2003. Beckett was the MVP of the series.
The Dodgers have benefited from Beckett's two recent starts, both victories against Miami and the Mets. On Tuesday, he threw five-plus frames and gave up eight hits and four runs in a 9-4 triumph at Citi Field. The righty is unbeaten in his last three starts and will try to win three consecutive starts for the first time since Aug. 18-31, 2011 when he pitched for Boston.
The last time Beckett faced the Phillies was May 20, 2012 as a member of the Red Sox, as he yielded only one earned run on seven hits in 7 2/3 innings in a victory. He's 9-5 in 19 career starts against the Phillies with a 3.98 ERA.
Burnett snapped a personal two-game skid with a victory at Marlins Park on Tuesday when he gave up three hits and three runs in five innings. He's 4-4 with a 3.63 ERA in 11 career starts against the Dodgers.
Yesterday, Ben Revere went 4-for-4 with three runs scored behind David Buchanan, who pitched well in his major league debut to help the Phillies snap a three-game losing streak with a 5-3 win.
Buchanan (1-0), who was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley earlier this week as the Phillies placed ace Cliff Lee on the disabled list, needed just 66 pitches to get through five frames. Buchanan allowed two runs, five hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Chase Utley had a two-run homer and Jimmy Rollins drove in a pair for the Phils, while Revere matched a career-high with his four hits.
Dodgers starter Dan Haren (5-3) went six innings, allowing five runs -- two earned -- with seven strikeouts to absorb the loss. Yasiel Puig went 2-for-4 with a run and has now hit safely in 21 of his last 22 games.
Phillies left fielder Domonic Brown left the game after the sixth inning with mid-back spasms. He is listed day-to-day. Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez (sore left calf) was a late scratch.
Philadelphia won three of four meetings at Dodger Stadium from April 21-24 this season.
