Tribe seek to give House some support in finale with Rangers
Jun 9, 2014 - 2:58 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - T.J. House hopes for some run support on Monday when the Cleveland Indians complete a four-game series with the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park.House has done his part his last two times out, but has nothing to show for it, despite giving up just three runs in 12 innings. He did not get a decision on Tuesday against Boston, as he allowed a pair of runs and six hits in 5 2/3 frames of his team's 5-3 win.
He is 0-1 on the year with a 3.79 ERA.
Texas, meanwhile, will counter with righty Nick Martinez, who has given up at least eight hits in three straight starts and is 1-2 with a 3.22 ERA. Martinez absorbed the loss on Wednesday to Baltimore, as he was roughed up to the tune of six runs (4 earned) and nine hits in 5 1/3 frames.
Cleveland moved back over .500 on Sunday, as David Murphy's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning proved to be the difference and the Indians edged Texas, 3-2.
Lonnie Chisenhall had two hits and scored twice, while Ryan Raburn and Asdrubal Cabrera each drove in a run for Cleveland, which has won eight of its last nine games.
Chisenhall is hitting .394 with 13 RBI over his last nine contests.
"He's been a big part of about everything we've done," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "He's been in the middle of it seems like all our rallies."
Justin Masterson (4-4) gave up two runs on five hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.
Alex Rios drove in a run for the Rangers, who have lost four of six. Joe Saunders (0-2) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
To make matters worse for the Rangers they learned on Sunday that they would be without first baseman Mitch Moreland for the next three months, as he will need reconstructive left ankle surgery.
"There's no lower half ... it's to the point where it's affecting me trying to go out and play," Moreland said. "I tried to fight it off until the end of the year. I knew I was going to have to have surgery. They told me you can do everything you can to try to get to the end of the year. I can't do it anymore."
Cleveland won five of six head-to-head meetings with the Rangers last season.
