Trout's HR in 9th lifts Halos past Astros
Jul 5, 2014 - 4:56 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Trout smacked a walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the LA Angels of Anaheim to a 7-6 win over the Houston Astros in the second installment of a four-game set."The adrenaline rush is something special," Trout said.
Down 0-2 in the count against Tony Sipp (1-1), Trout went down and golfed a slider that just cleared the wall in left.
"Trout hit a good pitch out of the ballpark and that was the difference in the ballgame," Astros manager Bo Porter said.
Joe Smith (3-0) tossed a scoreless top of the ninth to notch the win.
Albert Pujols belted a two-run shot among his three hits and three runs scored, while Howie Kendrick went 4-for-4 with an RBI for the Angels, who have won four of their past five games.
Angels starter C.J. Wilson surrendered six runs on seven hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings.
Jonathan Singleton launched a three-run blast, George Springer cracked a two- run shot and Chris Carter whacked a solo homer among his two hits and two runs scored for Houston, which has dropped five straight games.
Both teams scored a run in the second to open the scoring. Carter walloped his solo shot with one out in the top half and Collin Cowgill's RBI groundout in the home second tied the score.
The Angels pushed a pair of runs across in the third before Houston erupted for five runs in the fourth.
Singles by Pujols, Josh Hamilton and Kendrick to begin the third loaded the bases. Pujols came home when Erick Aybar grounded into a double play and Kendrick scored on a David Freese double to give the Halos a 3-1 advantage.
Enrique Hernandez led off the fourth with a single and Springer followed with his two-run blast to left-center. After Matt Dominguez and Carter singled, Singleton laced his three-run shot to right and give the Astros a 6-3 lead.
The Angels got a pair of runs back in the home half and tied the game with a run in the seventh.
Chris Iannetta started the fourth with a base hit before being retired on Cowgill's groundout. Pujols lifted his two-run shot into the bullpen in left two batters later.
Pujols singled to begin the seventh and stole second during Hamilton's at-bat. After Hamilton fanned, Kendrick banged a double against the big wall in right to knot the score at 6-6.
Game Notes
It was the 24th come-from-behind victory for the Angels this season ... LA went 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position, while Houston finished 1-for-4 ... Houston starter Dallas Keuchel allowed five runs on 13 hits and a walk over five frames.
