Beckett hopes to bounce back in finale versus Rockies
Jul 6, 2014 - 1:52 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh Beckett tries to bounce back from an awful showing his last time out when the Los Angeles Dodgers conclude a four-game series with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.Beckett had given up two runs or less in seven straight starts and was riding a 14-inning scoreless streak before being shelled by Cleveland for five runs and six hits in five innings on Tuesday.
"I was leaving them up," said Beckett, who fell to 5-5 to go along with a 2.37 ERA. "I was ahead in some of those counts whenever I was giving up hits. I'm in counts where I think it's the right pitch, but I'm just not executing the way I need to execute."
Beckett is 5-3 against the Rockies with a 3.86 ERA in 10 starts.
Colorado, meanwhile, will counter with 28-year-old lefty Yohan Flande, who will be making his third big league start. Flande lost on Monday in Washington, as the Nationals reached him for three runs and six hits in 5 1/3 frames. He had allowed four runs in five innings in his debut and is pitching to a 6.10 ERA on the year.
"He did his job, threw the ball well," Colorado skipper Walt Weiss said. "He's been very competitive both times out."
Colorado snapped a five-game losing streak on Saturday, as Drew Stubbs hit a two-run homer and scored twice in the Rockies' 8-7 win. Corey Dickerson also homered for Colorado, which won for only the second time in its last 11 games.
Jorge De La Rosa (9-6) was the beneficiary of another strong showing by the Rockies offense and earned his third straight win after giving up two runs on three hits in six innings.
"It was good timing with Jorge going out there and the tough stretch we've been in. It was a couple tough games to start the (10-game) homestand," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "We always feel good with him on the mound and he stepped up and gave us a great performance."
Dodgers righty Dan Haren (8-5) took the loss after allowing eight runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
LA is 8-4 against Colorado this season.
