NL West rivals collide at Coors Field
Jul 7, 2014 - 2:36 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of NL West foes get together Monday as the San Diego Padres pay a visit to the Colorado Rockies for three games at Coors Field. The Padres lost two of three games versus the San Francisco Giants this weekend and dropped a 5-3 decision on Sunday. The Padres had won five in a row before losing two straight to the Giants.
In Sunday's 5-3 loss at Petco Park, Brooks Conrad and Yasmani Grandal both homered for San Diego, while starter Jesse Hahn, who won his four previous starts, was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs on five hits and two walks in seven frames.
San Diego will also visit Los Angeles on this road trip.
Ian Kennedy gets the call for the Friars Monday and he is 6-9 with a 3.87 earned run average. Kennedy was 0-3 in four starts until he bested Cincinnati in last Tuesday's 8-2 win, tossing six innings of one-run ball.
Kennedy is 3-4 with a 2.88 ERA in 16 career starts against Colorado.
Meanwhile, the Rockies have lost 10 of their last 12 games and recently lost three of four games to the Dodgers.
The Rockies dropped an 8-2 decision on Sunday.
Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki returned from a two-game absence because of tightness in groin to go 1-for-3 with two runs scored for the Rockies, who have dropped six of their last seven.
Tulowitzki was announced Sunday as the top National League vote-getter for next week's All-Star Game.
"Rightfully so with the first half he's put together," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss.
Colorado's Yohan Flande will have to wait at least one more start to earn his first major-league win. The left-hander was charged with five runs on nine hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings in his third career start.
Tyler Matzek gets the call for the Rockies Monday and he is 1-2 with a 4.25 ERA in five starts. Matzek will face the Padres for the first time and tossed 6 1/3 innings of three-run ball at Washington last Wednesday in a 4-3 loss.
The Rockies are 4-3 against the Padres this season.
