Hahn, Padres edge Dodgers
Jul 12, 2014 - 6:02 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jesse Hahn pitched six strong innings and Carlos Quentin knocked in three runs in San Diego's 6-3 triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers.Alexi Amarista smacked a two-run homer for the Padres, who snapped a three- game slide. Will Venable had three hits and scored a run.
Hahn (5-2) gave up three hits and a run with four walks and six strikeouts. The 24-year-old right-hander bounced back from Sunday's loss versus the Giants.
"After the first inning I was able to throw strikes," Hahn said. "My curveball was working tonight. It's nice when you have a great defense behind you."
Dan Haren (8-6) surrendered six hits and four runs across four-plus frames to drop his second consecutive start.
"Dan just didn't get the ball where he wanted to tonight," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "He wasn't as sharp as he's been. We gave them extra chances. We missed opportunities tonight. We have to learn from it and move forward."
Yasiel Puig went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, but the Dodgers lost for the third time in four tries and dropped into a virtual tie for first place with San Francisco for first place in the NL West. The Giants blanked Arizona, 5-0, Friday.
Matt Kemp lined a single to left field in the first inning to score Puig.
In the second, Venable fanned, but was able to make it to first on a wild pitch. Amarista then homered to right field.
Chase Headley and Quentin hit back-to-back RBI doubles to center in the fifth. Quentin then singled to right to plate Hahn and Seth Smith in the sixth for a 6-1 cushion.
Puig doubled in a run in the bottom of the seventh. Alex Torres then came in to face Adrian Gonzalez, who lifted a sacrifice fly to left. The throw home was cut off at third base and Puig was tagged out in a base-running blunder.
LA had second and third and nobody out in the eighth, but couldn't score. They loaded the bases, but Carl Crawford grounded into a force play to end the threat.
