White Sox turn to Danks as they resume set with Twins
Jul 25, 2014 - 2:55 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Lefty John Danks takes the mound amid trade deadline rumors on Friday night, when the Chicago White Sox visit Target Field for game two of a four-game series with the Minnesota Twins.Danks has been with Chicago for each of his eight seasons in the majors while compiling a 4.22 earned run average. He won a career-best 15 games in 2010, but hasn't reached double-digits since.
His most recent start on Sunday was a sub-par one, resulting in a no-decision in Chicago's 11-7 loss to Houston after he allowed 12 hits and seven runs in just 4 1/3 innings.
In four starts prior to the weekend, he was 2-0 with a 2.73 ERA.
The Twins have been a curse to him for a prolonged stretch, which includes an 0-6 record and a 6.18 ERA over his last eight starts in the matchup. At Target Field specifically, he's 0-3 with an 8.22 ERA in his last four starts.
The most recent one came June 22, when he lost, 6-5, after allowing 10 hits and six runs in five innings.
Veteran right-hander Kevin Correia gets the call for the Twins after pitching just four inning on Sunday -- throwing 91 pitches -- in a 5-3 loss to Tampa Bay that saw him allow seven hits and walk three batters.
He's lost four of his last five starts, but has a 2.87 ERA over his last eight outings overall. Among those was a 4-3 defeat of the White Sox on June 21, when he went six innings and allowed one earned run.
In his last five against Chicago, he's 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA.
On Thursday, Hector Noesi pitched into the eighth and Adam Eaton knocked in a pair of runs as Chicago topped Minnesota, 5-2.
Alexei Ramirez and Tyler Flowers added an RBI each for the White Sox, who were coming off a series loss at home against the Royals.
Noesi (5-7) worked 7 2/3 innings, giving up only a two-run homer to Danny Santana and two other hits while striking out three. Jake Petricka pitched a quiet ninth to earn his fifth save.
Phil Hughes (10-7) left the game one batter into the fourth after taking a ball off the right ankle. He allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in defeat for the Twins, who had taken two of three from the Indians.
