Joyce, Rays get by Red Sox in 10

Sep 2, 2014 - 12:13 AM St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Joyce collected the game-winning hit with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, and Tampa Bay posted a 4-3 victory over Boston in the finale of a four-game series.

Burke Badenhop (0-3) allowed a leadoff double to Ryan Hanigan in the 10th, then issued an intentional walk to Kevin Kiermaier before Ben Zobrist's sacrifice bunt moved pinch-runner Sean Rodriguez and Kiermaier into scoring position. Wil Myers also drew a free pass ahead of Joyce's long fly to left, which sailed over the head of Yoenis Cespedes to end the game.

"That was definitely a nice finish," Joyce said. "I was excited to get the opportunity, ready for the challenge and glad I came through."

Grant Balfour (2-6) gave up a hit in a scoreless top of the 10th.

Evan Longoria drove in two runs, and Myers ended up with three hits and an RBI for the Rays, who earned a split in the set.

Mike Napoli homered, with Cespedes and Mookie Betts knocking in a run each for the Red Sox, who have dropped three of their last five.

Boston jumped on top in the third, as Christian Vazquez worked a two-out walk and scored when Betts followed with a double.

Tampa equalized in the home half. Hanigan led off with a hit, Zobrist added a one-out single and Myers hit an RBI bloop double. After Joyce struck out, Longoria's base hit plated two more.

Napoli's shot to left-center in the fourth made it a one-run game again, and the Sox evened things in the eighth.

Jeff Beliveau allowed a one-out hit to Betts, then left after Brock Holt's grounder moved Betts to second. Steve Geltz appeared, but allowed the tying RBI single to Cespedes.

"When RBIs are presented, regardless of the time of the game, but particularly late, it's been very impressive," said Red Sox manager John Farrell of Cespedes. "He's not fearful of situations. He likes the moment and repeatedly comes through."
