Giants, Rockies conclude set at Coors Field

Sep 3, 2014 - 2:47 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The usual suspects are at it again for the San Francisco Giants.

Outfielder Hunter Pence and catcher Buster Posey can continue a recent thrashing of Colorado pitching on Wednesday afternoon when the Giants visit Coors Field for the finale of their series with the host Rockies.

Pence had two hits and a run batted in on Tuesday to run his hit streak to 15 games. He's batting .393 and has driven in 15 runs during the streak, and has also hit in 15 straight games against the Rockies, including a .446 average and five home runs.

Posey, meanwhile, has 26 hits in 12 games -- 13 for extra bases -- and has driven in 18 runs.

"He's on fire right now and looking really good," San Francisco's George Kontos said. "Buster is a guy if something is not going right for him for a week or two or however long it is, he's a guy who's going to come out of it. He's going to get in his groove and do what we're all accustomed to seeing him do."

Posey has a .406 career average at Coors Field.

The Giants lead the race for the National League's top wild card playoff berth and will send Ryan Vogelsong to the mound for his fifth career start at Coors Field.

He's split four decisions while posting a bloated 7.50 earned run average there, and was nicked for five runs in just 1 1/3 innings in Colorado en route to an 8-2 loss in April.

In six most recent starts, however, he's 3-1 with a 2.58 ERA. The Giants have helped his cause with 19 runs in his last two starts, after averaging less than two per game in eight prior outings.

"I'll take 13 all the time," Vogelsong said.

Colorado hasn't been hitting or pitching much in a stretch of just two wins in eight games during which it's batted .198 and posted a 5.59 ERA.

Rookie Christian Bergman takes the mound after getting a no-decision against Arizona in his most recent start Friday and allowing a run and two hits in six innings.

He didn't allow his first hit until the fifth inning.

His lone career meeting with the Giants came on June 14 and included home runs from both Pence and Posey, though he got a no-decision in Colorado's 5-4 victory.

On Tuesday, Gregor Blanco hit a go-ahead RBI double as part of a six-run seventh inning as the Giants rallied for a 12-7 win over Colorado. Posey smacked a solo homer among his three hits, four RBI and three runs scored, while Andrew Susac cracked a two-run shot to highlight his two-hit night to go with three RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Blanco finished with three hits and two runs scored for San Francisco.

Corey Dickerson was 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored, D.J. LeMahieu clubbed a two-run blast and Drew Stubbs tallied two hits and three runs scored for the Rockies.
