Twins beat White Sox to avoid sweep
Sep 15, 2014 - 2:55 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Schafer and Trevor Plouffe homered as the Minnesota Twins beat the Chicago White Sox, 6-4, to avoid a three-game sweep.Kurt Suzuki drove in two runs for the Twins, who snapped a four-game skid. Trevor May (3-4) picked up his third straight win after giving up three runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts over six innings.
"I told myself that I was going to be aggressive all day," said May.
Adrian Nieto and Jose Abreu hit solo homers for the White Sox, who saw a four- game winning streak come to an end. Hector Noesi (8-10) allowed five runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings.
"I thought the guys played tough," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "They continue to play hard and get opportunities for the young guys."
The Twins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second. Plouffe led off with a blast to left. Oswaldo Arcia followed with a single and later scored on Eduardo Escobar's sacrifice fly.
Minnesota took a 4-0 edge on Schafer's two-run homer in the fourth. Escobar hit a two-out single and crossed the plate on Schafer's homer run to right.
The White Sox got both runs back in the bottom half. Adam Eaton singled, moved to third on Alexei Ramirez's double and raced home on Abreu's single to right. Conor Gillaspie followed with an RBI single.
Nieto's homer in the sixth got Chicago within 4-3.
The Twins tacked on a run in the seventh. Danny Santana hit a two-out double and scored on Suzuki's double to left-center field.
Suzuki added a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth, while Abreu homered in the bottom half.

Minnesota went 10-9 against the White Sox this season ... Abreu hit his 35th homer of the season ... Glen Perkins picked up his 34th save of the season.
