Red Sox look to rebound when staff aces face off
Sep 15, 2007 - 12:54 PM Ny Yankees (83-64) at Boston (89-59) 3:55 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) - Two pitchers battling for the American League Cy Young Award will meet on Saturday when the Boston Red Sox take on the New York Yankees in the middle game of a three-game series.
Josh Beckett (18-6, 3.27 ERA) enters his start for the Red Sox having won back-to-back starts with a 5-1 record over his last seven decisions.
Beckett allowed just two runs - both on solo home runs - and seven hits over seven innings while striking out eight, en route to a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang (18-6, 3.69) has been even hotter than his counterpart, winning his last five starts with an 8-1 record over his last 10 decisions. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his starts during the streak.
Wang surrendered three runs and five hits over seven innings to the Kansas City Royals during his last start on Sunday as the Yankees posted a 6-3 win.
The Yankees rallied for six runs in the eighth inning to overcome a five-run deficit and post an 8-7 win on Friday night.
New York pulled within 4 1/2 games of the Boston in the AL East. The Yankees continue to lead Detroit (81-67) by 3 1/2 games in the wild card race.
