Giants prepare for life after Bonds against Reds

Sep 22, 2007 - 1:26 PM Cincinnati (71-83) at San Francisco (67-87) 9:05 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - With the departure of Barry Bonds after the season, the San Francisco Giants will be holding auditions for a new left fielder for the remainder of the 2007 campaign.

Potential replaces will start displaying their skills when the Giants continue their four-game series with the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.

After the team announced Friday that they would not be re-signing the slugger for next season, the fans got a dose of what the future will be like as the Giants squandered a five-run lead, losing 9-8 in 11 innings.

San Francisco has lost four straight and nine of its last 11 games.

Kevin Correia (4-6, 3.45) will try to snap the slide when he takes the mound for the Giants.

Correia, who has posted a 3-0 record with a 2.18 ERA in seven starts this season, surrendered two runs and three hits in 5 2/3 innings during his last start on Monday against Arizona. The Reds will counter with Bronson Arroyo (9-14, 4.31 ERA), who is seeking his third straight win.

Arroyo allowed four runs and nine hits over 5 1/3 innings during his last outing against the Chicago Cubs. The righthander struck out six and walked two and did not factor into the decision as he watched from the bench as the Cubs scored three times in the ninth, winning 7-6 on Monday.
