Stanton leads Marlins over Braves

Apr 15, 2015 - 5:01 AM Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Giancarlo Stanton was 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored and the Miami Marlins downed the Atlanta Braves 8-2 on Tuesday.

Dee Gordon went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Ichiro Suzuki also scored twice for the Marlins, who snapped a three-game skid. Tom Koehler (1-1) allowed two runs on six hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

"You can't keep running out there what we've been running out there prior to tonight," said Stanton. "You've got to realize it, but not go out there with urgency or anything like that."

Freddie Freeman and A.J. Pierzynski hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth for the Braves, who won the opener of this set 3-2 on Monday.

"We feel like we're playing good baseball and tonight was just not our night," said Atlanta third baseman Chris Johnson. "We'll come in tomorrow night and try to win the series by playing good baseball."

Trevor Cahill (0-1), acquired from Arizona right before the season started, was tagged for four runs on five hits in just 2 1/3 frames to take the loss in his debut with his new team.

Miami's first three batters reached base, with Stanton's single bringing home Gordon. Martin Prado followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Suzuki and Michael Morse doubled home Stanton for a 3-0 lead.

In the third, the Marlins padded their lead, loading the bases before Cahill walked Marcell Ozuna to force in a run and spell the end of his outing.

Sugar Ray Marimon came on and retired the next two batters to limit the damage.

In the fourth, Gordon singled and stole second before Stanton singled him home for a 5-0 advantage.

The homers by Freeman and Pierzynski in the fourth got Atlanta on the board and cut the score to 5-2.

Miami got a run back in the sixth as Adeiny Hechavarria doubled to lead off, moved to third on a sac bunt from Koehler and crossed the plate on Gordon's sac fly for a 6-2 advantage.

The Braves loaded the bases with one out in the sixth to chase Koehler from the game, but A.J. Ramos took over and got Kelly Johnson to pop out and Andrelton Simmons to line out to end the frame.

Stanton's two-run double in the eighth accounted for the final score.
